12-Year-Old Used a Machete in Robbery

Tuesday, July 18, 2023 - Winnipeg Police arrested and charged a 12 year old with robbery using a machete.

Friday, July 14th shortly before 5:00 pm., two male youths in the area of Spence Street and Cumberland Avenue confronted a 17-year-old male who they knew and a 16-year-old female who was with the male.

As the situation escalated, the suspects brandished a machete and demanded the male victim's property. He turned over his property; however, he was assaulted with the machete causing serious injury to his face. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

One of the youths was arrested in the 600 block of Langside Street, and the robbery victim's property was recovered.

A 12-year-old male is facing the following charges:

- Robbery

- Aggravated Assault

- Assault

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code and turned over to adult custody.
