17-Year Old Charged in Daytime Shooting

Friday, December 9, 2022 - Thursday afternoon shortly after 2:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police responded to a Young Street because someone had been shot.

upon arrival police found a 40-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. An 18-year-old female victim was also located uninjured within the home. The gun shot victim was taken to hospital in stable condition, where he was treated for his injury.

The male suspect remained on scene and was safely placed under arrest.

The investigation determined that during a heated argument, the suspect shot a firearm (long gun) in the direction of the female victim, narrowly missing her. As the male victim intervened to assist the female, the suspect shot the him causing an upper-body injury. The suspect and victims were previously known to one another.

At the time of arrest the suspect falsely identified himself to police.

A 17-year-old male from Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:

- Aggravated Assault

- Point a Firearm

- Discharge a Firearm with Intent

- Discharge a Firearm into or At a Place in a Reckless Manner

- Possession of Firearm, Restrict/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 4

- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 4

- Possession of an Identity Document x 2

- Identity Fraud – Intent to Gain Advantage

He was detained in police custody.
