63 Year Old Stabbed, 17 Year Old Charged


Sunday, May 14, 2023 - Winnipeg Police received a call early Saturday morning, around 4:30 a.m.) about a stabbing on Keewatin Street.

Police said they found the, a 63-year-old man, suffering from upper-body injuries sustained from a stabbing. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

With help from the Canine Unit (K-9), officers located a suspect nearby and placed him under arrest without incident. Officers recovered a sharp-edged weapon concealed on his person and a small quantity of methamphetamine. Both were seized as evidence.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the suspect entered the victim’s residence through a window before stabbing him in an unprovoked manner. The suspect fled the residence before the police arrived.

The suspect and victim are previously unknown to one another, and officers believe the incident to be random.

A 17-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

- Aggravated Assault

- Break, Enter & Commit – Dwelling House

- Carrying Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

- Possession of a Weapon

- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine

He was released on an Undertaking and an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.
