Winnipeg, January 4, 2024 - Today at approximately 3:38 p.m. the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire at a three-storey apartment building located in the 1000 block of Selkirk Avenue.


Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters were greeted by a billowing plume of smoke emanating from the building, signifying the gravity of the situation. The firefighters managed to declare the fire under control at 4:12 p.m., preventing further destruction to the apartment building.


The brunt of the fire damage was confined to the suite from which the blaze originated. Fortunately, the majority of the residents were able to evacuate the premises safely.


However, one individual, faced with the perilous situation, made the courageous decision to escape by jumping from an upper-floor window. This individual was promptly attended to by paramedics and transported to hospital. As of now, the person is reported to be in stable condition.


The cause of the fire is under investigation by the authorities. As of this report, damage estimates remain unavailable, with investigators carefully assessing the extent of the destruction and the financial ramifications it might entail for the residents and property owners affected by the fire.
