Winnipeg Apartment Block Fire Displaces Over 100 Residents


Saturday, May 20, 2023 - Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service (WFPS) battle a blaze in a four-storey apartment building Friday night on Quail Ridge Road.


WFPS officials said all occupants of the building safely self-evacuated. One firefighter was assessed by on-scene paramedics and taken to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.


A searched of the building resulted in the rescue of several animals, reuniting the pets with their owners. The City of Winnipeg's Animal Services Agency was dispatched to the scene to assist with care for the pets.


It is estimated that the building has approximately 45 suites and that up to 180 residents were displaced by the fire. The City’s Emergency Social Services team is on scene, working with the Canadian Red Cross, to assist residents in finding temporary accommodations.


The cause of the fire is under investigation. The building sustained significant smoke, fire, and water damage. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
