Behaviour Escalated in Front of Home of Man Who dumped Dirt on Painting of Red Dress


Thursday, July 13, 2023 - The man seen on video who was throwing dirt on the road to the Brady Landfill that had the Red Dress painted on it by protesters was the subject of a protest in front of his own home that resulted in a 19-year-old being charged.


Wednesday Winnipeg Police became aware of social media posts encouraging people to gather in front of a mon's home to confront him with respect to his actions seen on video.



Police said there was a large crowd causing a disturbance outside a home in the Cecil Street and Elgin Avenue area around 6:30 pm. The crowd grew in size to approximately 40-50 people and the their behaviour escalated to the degree of causing property damage.


A 19-year-old man threw a rock through a window of the the man's home. He was arrested on a charge of Mischief Under $5,000 and was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.


Several police units were required to de-escalate the incident and maintain public safety. The crowd eventually disbursed, and the individual in the residence was not harmed.
