City Employees to Receive a $900 Bonus

- Thousands of CUPE city employees will receive a $900 bonus and enjoy 10.2 % increase in salary.

Next week, Executive Policy Committee (EPC) will consider the ratification of a negotiated agreement between the City of Winnipeg and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 500 (CUPE).

The Memorandum of Agreement between the City and CUPE is a four-year agreement, from March 1, 2021 to February 28, 2025, and includes general wage increases in each year of the contract, totalling 10.2% over the life of the agreement:

1.70% effective March 1, 2021, to be paid retroactively

1.00% effective March 1, 2022, to be paid retroactively

1.50% effective December 31, 2022 to be paid retroactively (as necessary)

1.50% effective March 1, 2023

1.50% effective December 31, 2023

1.50% effective March 1, 2024

1.50% effective September 1, 2024

Upon ratification, every CUPE member will receive a one-time signing bonus of $900. In addition, a special wage adjustment fund of $400,000 for selected classifications will begin January 1, 2023, and a separate special wage adjustment fund of $1 million for selected classifications will begin January 1, 2024.

Subject to EPC’s approval, the Memorandum of Agreement will then need to be approved by City Council.
