Couple Arrested for Cannabis Candy Halloween Treats


Wednesday, November 2, 2022 - Winnipeg Police arrest a woman and man from South Tuxedo for cannabis candy given out on Halloween.


Police said, to date, the Major Crimes Unit received over a dozen reports from parents who found THC “Nerds” candies in their children’s treat bags after trick or treating in the South Tuxedo neighbourhood on Halloween night.


Investigators spoke to the families and determined that children between 6 and 16 had received these THC edibles. Police have recovered four packages, and investigators have made arrangements to speak with the remaining victims and recover any outstanding THC candies.


A suspect residence was identified, and a search warrant was subsequently executed in the first one-hundred block of Coleraine Crescent.


Two adults were taken into custody.


A 53-year-old female and a 63-year-old male are facing the following charges:

- Cause Bodily Harm by Criminal Negligence x 13 - Administer Noxious Thing with Intent to Endanger Life or Cause Bodily Harm x 13 - Adult Distribution Cannabis to Young Person x 13 - Adult Distribution of Known Illicit Cannabis x 13


They were released on a Promise to Appear as mandated by the Criminal Code.

Parents and guardians are still encouraged to carefully check their children’s candy.

This investigation is still ongoing.
