CREWS BATTLE FIRE AT THE SAME HOME TWICE IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS

Friday, July 1, 2022 - Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to wo fires at the home less than 10 hours apart.

Thursday at 11:40 p.m. WFPS responded to reports of a fire in the two-storey unit of a duplex on Albina Way.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered fire and smoke coming from the building. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:33 a.m.

Two occupants and one dog self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported.

Then only hours after, on Friday morning around 8:57 a.m. fire crews responded to reports of another fire in the same unit.

Upon arrival, crews found the structure heavily involved in fire. They deployed exterior lines to prevent fire spread and conducted an interior offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:56 a.m.

The two-storey unit was unoccupied at the time of the second fire. Occupants of the neighbouring unit self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.

As a result of both fires, the two-storey unit is expected to be a total loss. The single-storey unit suffered smoke and water damage.

The cause of both fires is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

A vacant home fire on Magnus Avenue caused damage to a neighbours garage early Friday morning.

At 5:37 a.m. on Friday, WFPS responded to a garage fire on Magnus Avenue. Fire crews encountered a detached garage of a vacant house on fire that extended to a second detached garage.

Both garages sustained heavy fire damage, with minimal exposure damage to nearby residential structures. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
