Did the NDP Promise to Break National & Regional Trade Agreements?

Monday, September 11, 2023 - Manitoba's New Democrat leader, Wab Kinew, with the support of Dave McPhail of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union, said he promises to ensure more government contracts are awarded to workers within the province.

The problem is that national and regional trade agreements require equal access to bidders from other provinces on most significant projects. This benefits companies within Manitoba by allowing them to bid on jobs across the west, from which many receive work. However, the NDP says there are exceptions.

However, the NDP did not provide specific examples.

Another union endorsed this promise,

the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union, who says there has been less work under the Tory government.
