Winnipeg, December 8, 2023 - In the early hours of today, December 8, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a call reporting a fire breakout in a garage located within the 500 block of Langside Street.

Upon arrival at the scene, emergency crews confronted a dire situation as the fire had swiftly spread from the initially affected detached garage to an adjacent vacant two-and-a-half storey house. Both structures were ablaze, billowing heavy smoke and flames into the night sky. Given the perilous conditions, firefighters initiated a defensive strategy, launching their attack on the inferno from the exterior, deeming it unsafe to enter either building. The relentless efforts culminated in the fire being brought under control by 4:37 a.m.

Following the successful containment of the blaze, responders cautiously penetrated the house to conduct a thorough search. Thankfully, no occupants were discovered within the premises. As a precautionary measure, authorities temporarily evacuated the two neighboring homes. Miraculously, there were no reported injuries resulting from the ordeal.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched, seeking to shed light on the circumstances leading to the destructive event. Regrettably, both the house and garage sustained substantial damage, rendering them complete losses.

Notably, this unfortunate incident marks the second instance of fire damage to the affected house within a short span, with a previous fire occurring in November 2023.
