Winnipeg, January 26, 2024 - In a devastating incident that unfolded early Thursday morning the Stonewall RCMP was called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision that claimed the lives of a young father and his one-year-old son. The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 am on Highway 6, within the Rural Municipality of Woodlands.

The collision involved a southbound passenger vehicle that inexplicably crossed into the northbound lane, leading to a catastrophic head-on collision with a semi-truck traveling in the opposite direction. The sheer force of the impact left the passenger vehicle severely mangled and unrecognizable, and tragically, the driver, a 29-year-old male, and his infant son, aged just one year, were both pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel.

The driver of the semi-truck, a 74-year-old male, was fortunate to survive the harrowing ordeal, albeit with non-life-threatening injuries. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

Stonewall RCMP have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. A traffic reconstructionist has been called in to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the collision, shedding light on the factors that may have contributed to this tragic loss of life. The investigators will scrutinize various aspects, including vehicle conditions, driver actions, and the state of the road, to ascertain the root causes of the accident.

The tragedy highlights the need for ongoing efforts to enhance road safety measures, including awareness campaigns and improved road maintenance, to minimize the risk of such heart-wrenching incidents in the future.
