Winnipeg, March 6, 2024 - Yesterday, at 4:01 p.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to an automatic fire alarm from a three-story apartment building situated in the 700 block of Toronto Street.

Heavy smoke billowed from the building's structure. Firefighters entered the premises to tackle the flames from within. However, as conditions rapidly deteriorated, they were compelled to evacuate and transition to an exterior fire attack.

All occupants of the burning building managed to evacuate unharmed. As a precautionary measure, residents from a nearby apartment complex were also evacuated to safety. Winnipeg Transit dispatched a bus to provide shelter to the displaced individuals. Meanwhile, the City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) was on scene to offer support to those in need of temporary accommodations.
