Winnipeg, January 6, 2024 - The Winnipeg Police Service is currently conducting investigating a tragic incident that unfolded on January 4, leading to the death of 62-year-old Daniel Jawbone. Police have identified this incident as a homicide, with 59-year-old Derin Hanninen now facing charges of Second Degree Murder.


The incident took place around 7:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Furby Street. Responding to a report of a seriously injured man, officers arrived to find Mr. Jawbone in critical condition. Despite their best efforts, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries after being transported to hospital.


The investigation quickly led authorities to the 800 block of Furby Street, where they arrested Mr. Derin Hanninen in connection with the assault. He was taken into custody and now faces the charge of Second Degree Murder.


Police believe that the altercation leading to Mr. Jawbone's tragic demise took place within the accused's apartment suite. Authorities are working to gather all available evidence and interview potential witnesses to establish a clear timeline of events and the circumstances that led to this horrific incident.
