Winnipeg, December 19, 2023 - The Winnipeg Jets embarked on a challenging three-game stretch against Original Six opponents, starting with a showdown against the Montreal Canadiens last night. Montreal wins 3-2 loss in overtime, thanks to a clutch power-play goal by Montreal's Justin Barron.

The game began with the Canadiens jumping out to an early lead, capitalizing on two opportunities to beat Jets' netminder Connor Hellebuyck. However, the Jets refused to back down, mounting a spirited comeback.

Gabriel Vilardi and Cole Perfetti provided the heroics for the home team, as they each found the back of the net to knot the game at 2-2. Vilardi's goal injected life into the Winnipeg crowd, and Perfetti's equalizer set the stage for a thrilling finish.

It was a Barron versus Barron showdown in the extra period, as Winnipeg's Morgan Barron faced off against his brother Justin Barron, who plays defense for the Canadiens. The sibling rivalry took center stage when Justin Barron capitalized on a power-play opportunity just 1:09 into overtime, sending the visiting Canadiens into jubilation.

This loss, coupled with the Dallas Stars' victory on the same night, sees the Jets currently occupying the third spot in the Central Division, with a mere one-point deficit separating them from both the Stars and the Colorado Avalanche.

The Jets are set to hit the ice again on Wednesday to face the Detroit Red Wings.
