Major Drug Trafficking Operation Unearthed in Winnipeg: Four Arrested


Winnipeg, November 9, 2023 – In a significant breakthrough, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit initiated a major operation targeting drug trafficking within the city. The investigation, launched in November of 2023, led to the arrest of four individuals allegedly involved in trafficking Cocaine and Methamphetamine.


Acting on crucial information, investigators identified several individuals, linked addresses, and a vehicle allegedly connected to the drug trade. On November 7, 2023, officers spotted one of the suspects, a 42-year-old male identified as Mark Andrew Thomas, operating a 2006 Lexus IS 350 in the 700 block of Corydon Avenue. A swift and decisive traffic stop was conducted, leading to Thomas's arrest without incident.


Simultaneously, officers executed warrants at multiple locations, including two residences in the 600 block of Beaverbrook Street, a residence in the 800 block of McMillan Avenue, and the 2006 Lexus IS 350. The searches resulted in a significant haul of illegal items:

  • Firearms: A Remington Model 700 Muzzleloader, a Remington Model 700 Bolt Action Rifle, a Sportsman RS2 Air Rifle, a Winchester 410 370 Shotgun, and a 9mm Glock Handgun with a Loaded High Capacity Magazine.

  • Drugs: Over 2 Kilograms of Methamphetamine (Estimated Street Value = $203,150), Approximately 2.2 Kilograms of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $160,400), and Approximately 9 Grams of Psilocybin (Estimated Street Value = $90).

  • Other Items: Percocet pills x 14, scales, cell phones, a money counter, score sheets, packaging materials, ammunition, and over $19,000 in Canadian currency.

Mark Andrew Thomas, 42, of Winnipeg, faces a slew of charges, including possession of unauthorized firearms, possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of scheduled substances for the purpose of trafficking in Cocaine and Methamphetamine.


Joining him are three other individuals apprehended in connection with the operation:

  • Ryan Michael Paul Krawicki, 49, of Winnipeg: Charged with possession of scheduled substances for the purpose of trafficking in Cocaine and Methamphetamine.

  • Rene Orlando Barrios-Lopes, 45, of Winnipeg: Faces charges related to possession of prohibited firearms and scheduled substances for the purpose of trafficking in Cocaine.

  • Laura Lee Stranieri, 43, of Winnipeg: Charged with possession of prohibited firearms and scheduled substances for the purpose of trafficking in Cocaine.

All four suspects have been detained in custody pending further legal proceedings.


Additionally, a 36-year-old female and a 29-year-old male from Winnipeg were charged with possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000. Both were released on Appearance Notices as mandated by the Criminal Code.


Winnipeg Police continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, contributing to the collective effort in maintaining a secure community for all.
