Winnipeg, January 24, 2024 - Shortly after 5:00p.m. yesterday, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire at a single-family home in the 800 block of Lorette Avenue. The incident has left one individual in critical condition, and a dog has tragically lost its life in the blaze.

Upon arrival at the scene, WFPS crews were met with thick plumes of heavy smoke billowing from the residence, and flames on the exterior of the house. The firefighters knocked down some of the flames from outside the structure to prevent the fire from spreading further.

One individual was discovered at the scene in critical condition and was promptly transported to hospital for urgent medical attention. The identity of the individual and the exact nature of their injuries remain undisclosed at this time.

Additionally, firefighters also located a dog inside the residence, but sadly, it was declared deceased.

WFPS officials have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest that the blaze may have originated from within the house, but the exact circumstances surrounding the ignition remain uncertain. Damage estimates are not yet available, as authorities continue to assess the extent of the destruction.
