Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Winnipeg Transit Bus


Winnipeg, November 10, 2023 — In a devastating incident on November 9, around 5:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service rushed to the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a Winnipeg transit bus in the 600 block of Main Street.


The victim, identified as a male in his 60s, was immediately transported to the hospital in critical condition. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries.


According to investigators from the Traffic Division, the collision occurred when the pedestrian attempted to cross the street in oncoming traffic. At that moment, a northbound transit bus collided with him, resulting in severe injuries.


The collision did not cause any harm to the passengers on the bus, who were promptly moved to another transit vehicle.


The Winnipeg Police Service has clarified that, at this point, the ongoing investigation is being led by the Traffic Division and is not being treated as a criminal matter. Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was crossing the street against the flow of traffic when the accident transpired.
