Winnipeg, January 9, 2024 - In the early hours of January 6, a heartbreaking incident unfolded in the 500 block of Notre Dame Avenue, as a pedestrian lost his life in a motor vehicle collision. The Winnipeg Police Service responded to the scene at approximately 2:40 a.m., launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.


According to preliminary findings, the incident involved a 56-year-old male driver operating an Infiniti QX60 who had recently attended a carwash. The driver entered the carwash premises through the overhead garage door, and it was during this entry that the vehicle struck a pedestrian. The victim, identified as a 48-year-old male, was found near the entrance and sustained critical injuries as a result of the collision. Despite prompt medical attention and transportation to the hospital, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased.


The incident has raised numerous questions about the circumstances leading up to the collision, and investigators from the Winnipeg Police Service's Traffic Division are working diligently to uncover the details surrounding this tragic event.
