Winnipeg, April 6, 2024 - The Winnipeg Police apprehended a suspect following a robbery incident at a sporting goods store on Sterling Lyon Parkway yesterday afternoon. The perpetrator, identified as 21-year-old Deacon James Houle, faces multiple charges after a confrontation ensued during his attempt to flee.

According to the Winnipeg Police, the incident unfolded at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5 when an adult male, later identified as Houle, entered the store and allegedly selected an item without attempting to pay. When an employee intervened and pursued the suspect, a confrontation ensued, during which Houle brandished a knife, resulting in minor injuries to the 31-year-old employee.

The timely intervention of local security and the continued pursuit by the employee led to police locating and apprehended Houle in the vicinity. The weapon was confiscated, and the stolen property was recovered without further incident.

However, the arrest didn't end there. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Houle was in possession of a break-in tool, a violation of the conditions outlined in a previous Release Order. As a result, he faces additional charges related to possession of break-in instruments and failure to comply with conditions of release.

Houle now faces charges including robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, possession of break-in instruments, and failure to comply with a condition of a release order (four counts).
