Police Issue Warning After a Woman Was Sexually Assaulted

Wednesday, August 16, 2023 - Winnipeg Police are asking residents to exercise personal safety and situational awareness while in the area encompassing William Avenue, Arlington Street, Notre Dame Avenue, and Sherbrook Street following a sexual assault on Monday.

Police said they responded to a call about a sexual assault on an adult female on Tecumseh Street. The victim was walking westbound on McDermot Avenue when she noted a male suspect following her as she proceeded southbound on Tecumseh Street. The suspect approached her from behind and touched her in an inappropriate sexual manner. She was not physically injured during the incident.

The suspect is described as:

- A black male with an average build

- Approximately 5’4” tall

- Short dreadlocks
