Winnipeg, March 12, 2024 - Last Friday, March 8, just after noon, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to an incident at the underground concourse of Winnipeg Square. The call reported an assault on a store employee by an adult female.

According to reports, the altercation began when the store employee requested the suspect to leave the premises due to her inability to pay for selected items. This request evidently provoked the suspect, who retaliated by hurling a large cup of hot coffee at the victim before physically assaulting her. The assault resulted in the victim falling to the ground, striking her head in the process.

Responding officers discovered a 47-year-old female victim who had sustained injuries from the assault. The victim, who also operates the business, received medical assessment from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) at the scene and was cleared.

The suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by passersby who intervened and held her until the arrival of police. During this intervention, two of the individuals who aided in restraining the suspect were themselves subjected to physical assault but sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

The 34-year-old female from Winnipeg now faces charges of three counts of Assault, Assault with a Weapon, and Assault Causing Bodily Harm.
