Winnipeg, December 5, 2023 - In the early hours of December 3, Winnipeg Police officers made a significant arrest following a routine traffic stop at the intersection of Isabel Street and Alexander Avenue in the city's North End. The incident occurred around 4:50 a.m. when General Patrol officers pulled over a vehicle for Highway Traffic Act violations.

Upon investigation, police discovered a canister of bear spray in plain view inside the vehicle. Subsequently, three adult men were removed from the car and apprehended without resistance.

Officers then uncovered a loaded 9mm Glock-style handgun. What was particularly concerning was the discovery that the firearm possessed a 3D-printed receiver and was stocked with 9mm rounds of ammunition. Both the weapon and the ammunition were seized.

A 23-year-old man from Winnipeg faces multiple charges, including possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of a weapon (three counts). This individual was subsequently released.

Dillon Riley Barker, 27, and Brent Scott McCann, 33, both residents of Winnipeg, have also been charged in connection with the discovery. Barker faces charges including possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a gun, restricted/prohibited weapon, or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, and possession of a weapon (two counts). McCann, on the other hand, faces charges that include possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of firearm, restricted/prohibited weapon or ammunition contrary to prohibition order (three counts), and possession of a weapon (two counts).

Both Barker and McCann have been remanded into custody pending further legal proceedings.
