Winnipeg, February 13, 2024 - The Manitoba RCMP in Portage la Prairie made a significant bust on February 9, apprehending a suspected drug trafficker during a routine traffic stop on 9th Street NW.


According to the RCMP, at approximately 3:35 pm, officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as a 30-year-old man from Portage la Prairie. Further investigation revealed that the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver's license.


Upon placing the individual under arrest, officers discovered a cache of items during a search. These included a cell phone, a quantity of cash, and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine. Additionally, another cell phone and unstamped cigarettes were found within the vehicle.


Following the discovery, a search warrant was executed at a residence on 9th Street NW. Inside the property, officers uncovered a more substantial quantity of suspected methamphetamine, multiple cell phones, unstamped cigarettes, knives, firearms, ammunition, and various drug-related paraphernalia.


As a result of these findings, the RCMP have charged the 30-year-old suspect, identified as Tyler Rutherford, with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and numerous firearm-related offenses.


Rutherford has been remanded into custody pending a court appearance scheduled for this week in Portage la Prairie.
