Residents Displaced After Early Morning Winnipeg Fire

Sunday, September 25, 2022 - This morning just after 8:00 am, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a bungalow on Union Avenue West.

WFPS found a well-involved fire that had spread to a neighbouring property. Crews initially launched a defensive attack but once some of the flames were knocked down, they were able to transition to an offensive fire attack. The fire was declared under control after about one-hour.

A search of the house where the fire originated resulted in no occupants being found. WFPS evacuated two neighbouring homes. They also rescued several pets, including a gerbil and a lizard, from one of the homes, reuniting the animals with their owners. No injuries were reported.

The City’s Emergency Social Services were called to assist displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
