Semi Collision Causes Extensive Environmental Cleanup

A 26 year-old man faces charges after the semi truck and trailer he was driving ran a red light and struck another vehicle at the intersection of Oakpoint Highway and Selkirk Avenue.

The truck continued to drive for a significant distance, leaking over 600 litres of diesel fuel before it was stopped by police. The single vehicle was rendered inoperable and the two occupants were taken to the hospital where they were treated and released.

A 26-year-old man was charged with offences relating to the Highway Traffic Act, Vehicle Equipment & Safety Inspection Regulations, and Commercial Vehicle Trip Inspection Regulations.

The area was closed to traffic for approximately five hours as an extensive environmental cleanup was required along the roadway and the nearby ditches.
