Winnipeg, February 29, 2024 - Portage la Prairie RCMP responded on February 26, to a call about a firearm discharged at a business in the 1200 block of Saskatchewan Avenue.

According to RCMP sources, two male suspects engaged in a heated argument with a third male customer before one of them fired a shot into the door and fled the scene on foot. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Despite exhaustive patrols, the suspects remained elusive. However, the investigation took a significant turn when officers from the Headingley RCMP Detachment received a report regarding a possible impaired driver stranded off Provincial Road 248 in Elie. Upon arrival, officers discovered the vehicle lodged in the snow alongside the rail line, with the driver slumped over the steering wheel.

Officers arrested the driver, identified as 20-year-old Tyrone Bone from Winnipeg. In addition to being impaired, Bone was found in possession of .22 caliber ammunition. A search of the stolen vehicle led to the seizure of a loaded sawed-off shotgun and several cases of alcohol, believed to be stolen from a shoplifting incident in Langruth.

Further investigation linked Bone to the shooting incident in Portage la Prairie as well as the aforementioned shoplifting complaint. Consequently, Bone was remanded into custody.
