Winnipeg, March 5, 2024 - On March 2 tragedy struck a residential area on River Road when Grand Rapids RCMP received a report of a shooting. At approximately 3:55 pm, officers responded following a call indicating that a 17-year-old male had sustained a life-threatening injury.

Upon arrival, RCMP found the wounded youth and provided medical assistance. The severity of his condition prompted his transportation to the local nursing station via police vehicle. Subsequently, he was airlifted to Winnipeg for further medical attention.

According to the ongoing investigation, the incident unfolded within a residence where the victim, accompanied by a 16-year-old male, was present in a bedroom. Witnesses within the household recounted hearing a startling noise, prompting the younger male to vacate the premises before police intervention.

Despite the absence of physical harm to the 16-year-old, the 17-year-old victim bore the brunt of the ordeal, requiring immediate medical intervention.

In their efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting, RCMP executed a search warrant at the residence. However, the quest for the firearm allegedly involved yielded no tangible results, leaving authorities with unanswered questions.

Grand Rapids RCMP are urging anyone with pertinent information about the incident to step forward and assist in their investigation.
