Small Explosion in Downtown Winnipeg Prompts Police Response

Winnipeg, September 30, 2023 – Winnipeg General Patrol officers and the Tactical Support Team responded to a call about a detonated device outside a building in the first one hundred block of Donald Street around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Upon reaching the scene, officers interviewed a woman who disclosed that a minor explosion had occurred from a container while she was passing by. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the incident caused no damage to the surrounding area.

The Bomb Unit was promptly dispatched to assess the situation and determined that there was no additional risk to public safety. The explosion seemed to have originated from a small carton containing CO2 cartridges.

The Major Crimes Unit said that preliminary findings suggest that the incident was not specifically targeted at the individual who happened to be passing by.
