Winnipeg, February 12, 2024 - The Manitoba RCMP have charged 29-year-old Ryan Howard Manoakeesick of Carman with five counts of first-degree murder. The charges stem from the deaths of five individuals whose bodies were discovered yesterday in three locations across southern Manitoba.
The deceased individuals have been identified as the common-law partner of the accused, a 30-year-old woman found on Highway 3, and their three children: a 6-year-old daughter, a 4-year-old son, and a 2.5-month-old daughter, all located on Highway 248. Additionally, the body of a 17-year-old niece of the female victim was found at the residence in Carman. All five victims were residents of Carman and lived together.
RCMP said Initial reports suggested that a witness had assisted in rescuing the three young children from a burning vehicle. However, further investigation has revealed that the accused, Ryan Howard Manoakeesick, removed the children from the vehicle.
Mounties confirmed that officers are no longer present at the highway locations but are still on scene at the residence in Carman, where the investigation continues. Autopsies for the victims are scheduled to take place today and tomorrow, providing crucial insights into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The RCMP Major Crime Services, along with Carman RCMP, Headingley/Stonewall RCMP, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and the RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist Unit, are diligently working to unravel the details of this horrific event.
