Suspect Jumps from Second-Floor Window During Arrest at Winnipeg Community Correctional Facility


Winnipeg, October 21, 2023 - At approximately 8:00 a.m. this morning, members of the Winnipeg Police responded to an incident at a community correctional facility located in the 1000 block of Main Street. The police were there to apprehend a 38-year-old adult male who was wanted on a Canada-Wide Warrant.


Police said, the wanted individual, who was identified as the 38-year-old man was reportedly cooperative and compliant with the officers. During his time in custody, he was allowed an accommodated phone call to a family member at the facility. However, in an unexpected turn of events, the man suddenly jumped from the second-floor window of his room.


The fall resulted in serious bodily injuries, and emergency medical services were immediately called to the scene. The injured man was transported to a nearby hospital in an unstable condition. Later, his condition was upgraded to stable.


The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been informed about the incident and has taken over the responsibility for the investigation. The IIU, an independent civilian oversight agency, conducts investigations into all serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba.
