Suspicious Item on Agnes Street Prompts Winnipeg Police Bomb Unit Response


Winnipeg, November 19, 2023 - At approximately 8:40 a.m. today, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to reports of a suspicious item discovered in the 400 block of Agnes Street. Upon arrival, General Patrol officers identified a potentially hazardous item within a compost receptacle, treating it as a possible improvised explosive device (IED).


To ensure public safety, a swift and coordinated effort involving multiple units commenced. Residents in the vicinity were promptly evacuated while officers secured the area with the help of Tactical Support, Traffic, and Auxiliary Cadet Units.


The Bomb Unit later conducted a controlled detonation of the item, which was found to be non-explosive. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident, and residents were informed once the area was deemed safe.


The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.


The Winnipeg Police Service advises the public to immediately contact 911 upon encountering suspicious items and to avoid approaching them for safety reasons.
