Winnipeg, March 3, 2024 - Late last night, Winnipeg Police Service responded to reports of a disturbance at a multi-dwelling apartment building on Kennedy Street. Officers were called to check the well-being of an adult male who was reportedly acting erratically and aggressively towards members of the public.

Upon arrival, officers found the man outside the building exhibiting signs of agitation, suspected to be under the influence of drugs. In an attempt to subdue him for the safety of all involved, officers moved to handcuff the individual. However, the situation quickly escalated when the man allegedly bit one officer, causing a minor lower-body injury, and attempted to bite another.

The suspect was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment, where he was later released. The injured officer also received medical attention.

In a surprising turn of events, during the arrest, several tenants from the apartment building threw various items, including a piece of carry-on luggage, from their balconies toward the officers on the street below. Fortunately, no one was struck or injured by the thrown objects.

The 42-year-old male, identified as a resident of Winnipeg, now faces multiple charges including Assault Peace Officer (x2), Resist Peace Officer, and Fail to Comply with Conditions of Release Order (x2).
