Thompson RCMP Apprehends Suspect Following Threats Made at General Hospital


Thompson, October 28, 2023 - On the evening of October 20, 2023, the Thompson RCMP responded to a report from Thompson General Hospital, leading to the arrest of a 44-year-old man who had allegedly made threats towards individuals in the hospital's waiting room.


At around 8:00 pm, Thompson RCMP received a distress call from the hospital reporting the menacing behavior of the suspect. Witnesses recounted that the agitated individual had verbally threatened those present in the waiting room, expressing his intent to return with a firearm. Alarming those in the vicinity further, the suspect took photographs of the people present before fleeing the scene.


Upon arrival, officers gathered information from witnesses who provided crucial details about the suspect's actions. The RCMP promptly initiated a search operation, and apprehend the suspect, ensuring the safety of the community.


The 44-year-old man was located at a residence in Thompson. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and although he was unarmed at the time of arrest, the RCMP treated the threat seriously.


Insp Damon Werrell stated, "The RCMP is committed to taking firearm threat investigations seriously, ensuring the safety of our community. In response to this complaint, we mobilized our resources and quickly tracked down the suspect. We continue to work diligently to maintain public safety."


Despite the successful arrest, the Thompson RCMP is urging any additional witnesses who may not have spoken to investigators to come forward. They are requested to contact the Thompson RCMP at 204-677-6909, providing any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
