Winnipeg, April 11, 2024 - A routine online transaction for a firearm took a violent turn on Tuesday evening of April 8, leaving a 20-year-old man hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds. The Winnipeg Police responded to a call around 10:00 p.m. in the 500 block of Mountain Avenue.

According to Winnipeg Police, upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the victim in the 1000 block of McPhillips Street, suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical care was administered to the victim on-site. Police applied a chest seal to stabilize him before transportation to the hospital. The victim's condition was later upgraded to stable.

It was revealed that the victim had arranged to meet with the suspects, presumably to finalize a firearm purchase, through an online classified website specializing in firearms brokerage. However, suspicions arose during the encounter, prompting one of the suspects to draw a firearm and discharge multiple rounds into the victim's vehicle as he attempted to flee the scene.

Winnipeg Police have provided partial descriptions of the suspects to aid in their apprehension. Suspect 1 is described as a white male in his 20s, dressed in a white hooded sweater, while Suspect 2, a male in his 30s, was reportedly wearing dark clothing and carrying a long gun at the time of the incident. Despite extensive efforts, the suspects managed to evade capture and fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.

The Winnipeg Police Service is appealing to the public for any information, including home/business surveillance footage or dashcam recordings, that could assist in identifying and locating the suspects. Those with pertinent information are urged to contact the Winnipeg Police Service at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477). Alternatively, information can be submitted online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
