Visiting Athlete Assaulted While Trying to Help a Victim

Monday, July 31, 2023 - The first few days of Winnipeg being on the world stage for the 2023 World Police & Fire Games and had concing moments.

Winnipeg Police report that on Saturday morning a cruiser was flagged down by a man in the first 100 block of Goulet Street.

The man (in his 50s) is an athlete from abroad and his here for the World Police and Fire Games. While he was at a nearby fast food restaurant, he witnessed an altercation between two females and attempted to intervene. One of the females bear sprayed the other female and then sprayed the visiting athlete victim in the face as he approached. The suspect fled on foot, and the female victim left before being identified or receiving assistance.

Police searched the area and quickly located the suspect walking on Marion Street, and she was taken into custody.

The victim received medical assistance from WFPS.

A 25-year-old female of Winnipeg is facing charges of Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon.

She was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
