Winnipeg Fire Battles a Blaze on Furby

Monday, January 9, 2022 - Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) were called to a two-story house fire on Furby Sunday just before 3:00 p.m.

WFPS officials said, heavy smoke was coming from the house. Due to the high heat fire fighters initially fought the fire defensively from the exterior of the house.

Conditions improved for a short time and they were able to enter the structure to apply water to the fire. Conditions deteriorated and crews were forced to move back to an exterior attack, using an aerial ladder.

Occupants of all neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Once most of the fire was knocked down, crews were once again able to enter the structure to extinguish hot spots. The fire was declared under control at 6:53 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time but the house suffered significant smoke, fire and water damage. It is expected to be a complete loss.
