Winnipeg Firefighters Battle a Blaze on Alexander Avenue

Winnipeg, October 8, 2023 - In the early hours of Friday, October 6, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) swiftly responded to a house fire on Alexander Avenue. The alarm was raised at 6:36 a.m., prompting WFPS into action. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke billowing from the one-and-a-half storey residence. The brave crew fought the flames from inside, successfully gaining control by 7:21 a.m.

Miraculously, the sole occupant managed to escape unharmed, along with their two canine companions. The City of Winnipeg's Emergency Social Services (ESS) team stepped in, assisting the resident in securing temporary shelter. Regrettably, a firefighter sustained injuries during the operation, although they didn't require hospitalization. Fortunately, no other casualties were reported.

Preliminary investigations point toward the fire being accidental, originating from an overheated battery. As of now, estimates regarding the extent of the damage remain undisclosed.
