Winnipeg Firefighters Battle Another Vacant Home Fire


Winnipeg, October 21, 2023 - Early this morning the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) swiftly responded to a fire in a vacant, single-storey house on Toronto Street. The incident occurred at 5:22 a.m.


Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters discovered smoke billowing from the vacant residence. Wasting no time, they entered the building and initiated an offensive fire attack. Their prompt efforts led to the successful containment of the blaze, with the fire being declared under control at 6:05 a.m.


A comprehensive search of the house was conducted, confirming that no occupants were inside during the incident. As a precautionary measure, residents from the two adjacent homes were temporarily evacuated. These residents were provided shelter on a Winnipeg Transit bus until it was safe for them to return to their homes. Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the residents or the emergency response teams.


The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with authorities working diligently to determine the origin and circumstances surrounding the incident. As of now, estimates of the damages incurred by the vacant house remain unavailable.
