Winnipeg Jets Win Home Opener

Winnipeg, October 14, 2023 - In a thrilling home opener, the Winnipeg Jets emerged victorious with a 6-4 win against the Florida Panthers at Canada Life Centre today. Kyle Connor was the star of the show, contributing significantly with two goals and an assist. Mark Scheifele and Mason Appleton also made their presence felt, each scoring a goal and providing an assist. Connor Hellebuyck played a crucial role in the Jets' triumph, making 29 saves throughout the game, while Josh Morrissey showcased his playmaking skills with two assists.


Scheifele initiated the scoring with a power-play goal, giving Winnipeg an early 1-0 lead. However, Florida swiftly responded, with Sam Reinhart equalizing on the power play. Evan Rodrigues then pushed the Panthers ahead 2-1 early in the second period, but Connor leveled the score at 2-2 just moments later.


Winnipeg gained momentum as Morgan Barron and Dylan DeMelo found the back of the net, establishing a 4-2 lead. Appleton's remarkable short-handed goal further extended their advantage to 5-2. The Panthers fought back valiantly, with Carter Verhaeghe and Rodrigues narrowing the gap to 5-4. In the dying moments, Connor sealed the Jets' victory with a power-play goal, securing the 6-4 final score.
