Winnipeg, March 13, 2024 - This month the Winnipeg Police initiated an investigation into a wanted male suspected of firearm possession.


On March 12, officers observed the male suspect, noted to be wearing a backpack, riding an electric-powered bicycle in the vicinity of Aberdeen Avenue and Andrews Street. Upon sighting law enforcement, the suspect swiftly fled eastbound along Aberdeen Avenue. Despite officers' attempts to apprehend him, he abandoned the bicycle and continued to evade capture on foot, leaving behind his backpack in the process.


The pursuit led officers to the suspect's residence in the 400 block of Boyd Avenue. There, the suspect was discovered attempting to conceal himself. During his arrest, the suspect reportedly assaulted two officers, although no injuries were reported. Subsequently, law enforcement recovered the discarded backpack from a backyard in the 400th block of Aberdeen Avenue.


A search of the backpack yielded several items seized as evidence, including a loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic sawed-off rifle with a magazine containing 15 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, an additional magazine with 20 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, and 13 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition stored in a prescription bottle. Also found were approximately 18 grams of Fentanyl with an estimated street value of $2,700, approximately 7.5 grams of Methamphetamine valued at $375, cell phones, and around $150 in Canadian currency.


Paul Joseph Duclos, aged 33 and a resident of Winnipeg, faces multiple charges including assaulting peace officers, resisting arrest, fleeing from law enforcement, and various firearm-related offenses. Additionally, Duclos is charged with possession and trafficking of controlled substances, possession of proceeds obtained through criminal activity, and possession of identity documents. Notably, Duclos was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for Break Enter & Commit Assault – Dwelling House.
