Winnipeg Man in Custody Following Police Chase

Sunday, September 24, 2023 - A winnipeg man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a car chase Friday, September 22.

Around 5:00 p.m., Friday, police spotted a wanted man driving a 2001 GMC Savana 1500 Cargo camper van traveling near Salter Street and Flora Avenue. When Police attempted to stop the vehicle at Aikins Street and Manitoba Avenue. but the suspect, increased his speed, rammed the police unit, and fled at a high rate of speed.

While fleeing from police, the suspect vehicle collided with two civilian vehicles, causing it to become inoperable. The suspect and an adult female occupant fled on foot after abandoning the vehicle at McPhillips Street and Redwood Avenue.

With assistance from North District General Patrol, the K-9 Unit, and members of the general public, the male was located in the 1200 block of Troy Avenue and arrested without incident.

A search of the vehicle he was operating produced a large quantity (approximately 1000) of various prescription medications, including approximately 800 Xanax pills, which were seized as evidence. The prescription medications are estimated to have a street value of roughly $10,000.

Officers also determined the involved vehicle had previously been reported stolen from a business in the 2100 block of St.Mary’s Road on September 18, 2023.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

Travis Terry Lee THAYER, 31, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

- Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon x 2

- Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer

- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

- Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking x 3

He was detained in custody.
