Winnipeg Police Apprehend Bank Robbery Suspect Downtown


Winnipeg, November 1, 2023 – On the afternoon of October 30, a potentially dangerous situation at a bank in the heart of downtown Winnipeg was quickly resolved, thanks to the rapid response of the Winnipeg Police.


At approximately 4:10 p.m., officers received a hold-up alarm from a bank located in the 200 block of Portage Avenue. The alarm signaled a potential threat, and officers were dispatched to the scene.


Downtown Foot Patrol officers arrived at the scene in a matter of minutes and found that a suspect was still inside the bank. Without any incident or use of force, the officers successfully placed the suspect under arrest.


The Major Crimes Unit immediately took over the investigation, revealing that the suspect had entered the bank and presented a note to one of the bank's employees, demanding money. Fortunately, no weapons were involved in the attempted robbery, and the suspect left the bank empty-handed.


The suspect, identified as a 37-year-old man from Winnipeg, now faces charges of Robbery. Following his arrest, he was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
