Winnipeg Police Apprehend Suspect in A second Shooting Incident on Saturday


Winnipeg, October 30, 2023 – The Winnipeg Police successfully apprehended the suspect involved in an early morning shooting incident that left a 58-year-old male victim critically injured.


At approximately 4:50 a.m. Saturday, Police responded to a call in the 300 block of Bannerman Avenue, reporting a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 58-year-old male victim with a serious upper-body gunshot wound. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition, later stabilized.


The investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as Dylan Denee Alfred Denechezhe, 24, of Winnipeg, had forced his way into the residence. A verbal altercation escalated rapidly, culminating in the suspect producing a handgun and firing at the victim, causing severe injuries.


The suspect, though known to one of the residents, was not familiar to the victim. He fled the scene before the police could arrive. However, officers, supported by the Tactical Support Team and the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Unit (Drone Unit), executed a search warrant at a residence in the 900 block of Summerside Avenue at approximately 9:20 a.m. Within the premises, they located and apprehended Denechezhe without incident.


Denechezhe now faces a series of serious charges, including Aggravated Assault, Break, Enter & Commit – Dwelling House, Use of a Firearm During the Commission of an Indictable Offence, Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Discharge of a Restricted Firearm or a Prohibited Firearm with Intent, and Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime. He has been detained in custody.
