Winnipeg Police Arrest Man Who Stabbed a Security Guard in Downtown

Winnipeg, December 7, 2023 - On December 6, around 12:20 p.m., the Winnipeg Police responded to a call from a retail store near Portage and Main. Police were told that an adult male victim was stabbed during a commercial robbery.


Upon arrival police found a 23-year-old male, a Loss Prevention Officer, suffering from a severe upper-body injury. The victim was taken to hospital in a stable condition. The suspect, an adult male, fled the scene before police arrived.


With the help from some members of the public, officers successfully located the suspect at the intersection of Main Street and Disraeli Freeway. After a brief pursuit on foot, the suspect was caught and police recovered the discarded weapon nearby.


Bruce Richard Renschler, aged 52, faces multiple charges, including Robbery, Assault with a Weapon, and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order. He has been remanded into custody pending further legal proceedings.
