Winnipeg, November 23, 2023 - An altercation over a Video Lottery Terminal (VLT) machine at a lounge in the 600 block of Pembina Highway escalated into a threatening situation, culminating in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of a substantial amount of illegal substances and weaponry.
The incident, which unfolded on Tuesday, November 21 around 8:10 p.m., saw two male suspects engaged in a heated argument with a 27-year-old male victim. The disagreement quickly escalated, resulting in threats to harm individuals within the lounge. The suspects fled before police arrived but returned armed with a firearm, though fortunately, no injuries were reported before they fled the scene in a vehicle.
The combined efforts of the West District General Patrol, Tactical Support Team, and Canine Unit led to the rapid location of the suspects in the 800 block of Weatherdon Avenue. Subsequently, the suspects were apprehended without further incident.
The investigation, led by the Major Crimes Unit and the Organized Crime Unit, resulted in a search of the suspects' vehicle. The search revealed a disturbing cache of illegal substances and weaponry:
2 kilograms of cocaine (estimated street value $60,000)
1 ounce of fentanyl (estimated street value $3000)
100 oxycontin tablets (estimated street value $4000)
Approximately $10,000 Canadian currency
2 x 3D printed handguns and ammunition (one firearm was loaded)
The subsequent charges laid against the apprehended individuals, include unauthorized possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of prohibited devices, possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, uttering threats, and possession of weapons.
The three suspects, identified as a 21-year-old male, a 19-year-old male, and an 18-year-old male, were taken into custody were they remain.
