Winnipeg, February 29, 2024 - In a collaborative effort to combat rising incidents of shoplifting plaguing Winnipeg's retail sector, the Property Crime Unit and Divisional Community Support Units have intensified their Retail Theft Initiative. Partnering with the Retail Council of Canada and local businesses, the initiative aims to tackle shoplifting, which not only inflicts financial losses but also poses threats to staff and public safety.

Yesterday, February 28, officers from the Property Crime Unit and the West District Community Support Unit conducted a theft deterrence operation at a grocery outlet on Sargent Avenue. Six adults were apprehended for pilfering various items, all of which were successfully recovered.

Two of the apprehended individuals were found to have outstanding warrants.

If retailers require safety and crime prevention information, contact the Community Relations Division.
