Winnipeg, January 12, 2024 - As winter tightens its grip on residential neighborhoods, city authorities are reminding residents and motorists to prepare for an upcoming residential parking ban aimed at clearing the streets of ice and snow. The ban is scheduled to take effect from Sunday, January 14 at 7 p.m. until Wednesday, January 17 at 7 a.m.

The city has outlined a detailed schedule for the ban, with specific zones allocated for each day. Drivers must take note of their respective zones to avoid potential fines and towing. The ban will be enforced to facilitate snow and ice removal operations in residential areas.

The city's winter parking restrictions have been structured as follows:

  • Temporary Extended Winter Route Parking Ban: This ban remains in effect until 7 a.m. on Sunday, January 14.

  • Winter Route Parking Ban: This ban will be in effect from 2 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16.

During the residential parking ban period, the winter route parking ban will be suspended, allowing drivers to park overnight on designated winter routes on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights. However, it is essential for drivers to continue adhering to any temporary or unrelated on-street signage that may prohibit parking on these routes. Such signs could include restrictions during rush hours or in loading zones.

The winter route parking ban will resume at 2 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, prohibiting parking on designated winter routes daily from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m.

This suspension of the winter route parking ban during residential parking bans is a recurring measure meant to provide more parking options for residents during snow clearing and plowing operations.

To ensure compliance with the residential parking ban, it is crucial for residents and drivers to be aware of their respective zones and adhere to the schedule outlined by the city. The zone schedule for the upcoming ban is as follows:

  • Sunday, January 14 at 7 p.m. to Monday, January 15 at 7 a.m.: Zones E, L, J, N, S, F, U

  • Monday, January 15 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Zones A, I, R, O, K, T
