Woman Abducted and Taken on Downtown Police Chase

A 33 year-old woman was abducted and taken on a police chase after two women tried to extort money from her.

The victim met the two women to arrange to retrieve her car which they had stolen previously in return for a sum of money. When she got in the car they took off with her inside. Police were called and they caught up with the car downtown. The suspects refused to pull over and instead rammed two police cars and took off. No officers were injured.

Air1 tracked the vehicle to Burrows Avenue and police were able to use a spike belt to stop the car.

Officers arrested both suspects after a short foot pursuit. The victim was located inside the vehicle unharmed.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the two suspects and the victim were previously known to one another and that the suspects had forcibly stolen the vehicle from the victim on April 23. The suspects refused to return the vehicle to the victim unless a pre-determined amount of money was paid in exchange.
