Woman Spends New Year's Eve in Custody

Monday, January 1, 2023 - A 23-year-old woman spends New Year's Eve in custody after being arrested for a stabbing on Maryland Street.

Winnipeg Police found a 27-year-old victim suffering from an upper-body stab wound and provided emergency medical care with the application of a chest seal. The woman was taken to hospital in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. Police located asuspect and placed the woman under arrest. During the arrest, the suspect physically assaulted one of the officers. The officer was uninjured as a result of the assault.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the suspect attended the victim’s residence and engaged in a verbal dispute. The dispute escalated with the suspect stabbing the victim, causing an injury to the upper body.

The suspect and victim are previously known to one another as acquaintances.

A 23-year-old female from Winnipeg is charged with the following offences:

- Aggravated Assault

- Assault a Peace Officer

- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

- Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking

She was detained in custody.
